        her mysterious past.
Because so much is unknown about Raine, there is much to be left to the imagination about how her past may have come to be.

***The following is nothing but PERSONAL CONJECTURE, unproven by official sources. Mere observation of her character and the storyline has inspired this theory.

Raine may have been a lonely person before Laguna entered her life. Because of the war, all the men from Winhill have been sent away. Also, with of her responsibilities to Ellone, Raine wouldn't have time to date. She does not appear to be already in love when we meet her; there is no mention of another man in her life.

Raine has been living simply, but happily, with Ellone until the day Laguna stumbled upon her quiet hometown. An injured soldier, crying, she took him in and nursed him back to health for six months. This shows a very empathic side of Raine. She took Ellone in when her parents died. She took care of Laguna when she didn't know him at all. Raine embodied the mothers in their lost lives.

One noticeable fact is that the residents of Winhill seem to detest Laguna; which is rather strange. It could be that she was once hurt by a soldier. The shopkeeper at Winhill told Laguna that Raine would be better off without Laguna around. They all seem rather hostile to someone who's been respected greatly everywhere else he goes. But then maybe it was because they didn't trust soldiers; after all they were the ones who took away the men to war.

Although Raine's history will always remain an enigma, her crossing of paths with Laguna has been sweet, but tragic.
